Asian Inspired Tuna Steak delivers the best of two worlds. Sticky sweetness of Asian inspired flavors paired with Ahi Tuna Steaks delivers a delicious tasty meal. Can be prepared on any night of the week and enjoyed in the comfort of your home.

Ahi Tuna is known for its high fat content, meatier texture and savory flavor profile. Tuna provides an excellent source of Magnesium, Potassium, Omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin B amongst others. It is a great alternative to your everyday Chicken, Beef and Pork while holding up to any flavor profile. Pairs well with your favorite side dishes, an assortment of salad greens or if you are like me, anything Asian inspired for a top choice.

Asian Inspired Tuna Steak was my second attempt at creating this dish. First time around, I wasn’t on the enjoying seafood on the pink side level so while the flavor was good, my Tuna was a bit tough and overcooked. Not one to give up, I came back around to trying again. Realizing that Tuna isn’t meant to be cooked fully. Second time around, it was pink, beautiful and out this world. With a quick marinade of Minced Garlic, Balsamic Vinegar, Soy sauce, Rice Wine Vinegar, Brown Sugar, Olive Oil etc, I was able to pan sear this lovely in less than 5 minutes and serve along side steamed rice and green beans. While these were my options, let’s get to trying out this recipe in your kitchen. Your kitchen, your options and your new favorite recipe.

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk

Ingredients

Seafood

  • 4 Ahi Tuna Steaks May substitute for your preferred Tuna selection.

Produce

  • 1 tbsp Minced Garlic

Seasonings

  • 1 tbsp Garlic Herb Seasoning No Salt
  • 1 tsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1/2 tsp Ginger Powder
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper

Condiments

  • 1/3 cup Balsamic Vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Maple Syrup
  • 1/3 cup Mushroom Soy Sauce Can fine in most Asian markets. Can use Regular Soy sauce in place as well.
  • 2 tbsp Rice Wine Vinegar
  • Sesame Seeds Optional

Baking Spices

  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar

Oil

  • 1/3 cup Olive Oil

Other

  • 1/4 cup Water

Instructions

Marinade Preparation

  • Place Minced Garlic, Balsamic Vinegar, Maple Syrup, Mushroom Soy Sauce, Rice Wine Vinegar, Brown Sugar, Olive Oil, Water, Garlic Herb Seasoning, Smoked Paprika, Ginger Powder and a couple of generous pinches each of Salt and Pepper. Whisk all the ingredients together to incorporate.
  • Place Tuna Steaks in a large Ziplock Back.
  • Add 1/2 of marinade into Ziplock Bag and seal closed. Set aside remaining marinade for later use. Using your hands, gently massage the marinade into the Tuna Steaks being sure to coat thoroughly on all sides. Set aside and let it marinade for 1 hour. Be sure 1/2 way through marinading time you give it a gentle toss again to be sure marinade redistributes again.

Pan Searing Tuna Steaks

  • Heat Cast Iron Skillet or Pan to Medium High until completely hot. I like to use a Grill Skillet so that my Tuna gets some nice grill marks.
  • Spray Pan with nonstick spray
  • Gently place Tuna Steaks in pan and sear for 2 minutes on first side then flip over and additional 2 minutes on second side. Remove from pan and set aside on dish covered lightly with foil. The residual heat will continue to cook it. Cooking time will vary on the thickness of the Tuna Steaks and how you enjoy your Tuna Steaks in the middle. Keep in mind, you do not want to overcook the Tuna as it will become dry and chewy.

Glaze

  • Heat remaining Marinade on medium until it reaches a simmer continuously stirring then remove from heat source.

Serving

  • Serve Tuna Steaks with your favorite sides or over a bed of greens, drizzle glaze over top and garnish with Sesame Seeds. Enjoy!
