BBQ Garlic Hot Wings and Rice & Beans is a combination of all my favorites flavors. That Sweet & Tangy BBQ sauce with a Garlicky spicy kick takes that Wing from boring to a WOW adventure. Serve it with a side of Rice & Beans and you have a merge on Wing night with a Latin twist.

I love exploring with different taste profiles when cooking with wings. While some love it fried and others baked, it is totally versatile and the flavor profiles are unlimited. Every now and then I dabble in some good fried food but this recipe can also be created in an Airfryer or oven if preferred. You are the cook, it’s your vision and if you like it, I love it!

Rice and Beans was a common staple growing up and it is commonly cooked in many Hispanic homes several times a week. While I strayed away from it as I got older looking for other things to cook. I still occasionally bring my roots back into play. There are so many ways to cook them that I like to think keeping it pretty simple is okay by me. How I choose to cook Rice & Beans depends on what I have on hand at that moment. Either way, I’m happy, my family is happy and now you can be happy as well.

Instructions

Prep Chicken Wings

  • Cut Chicken Wings into sections. Toss wing tips or if you like nibbling on them, keep them.
  • Rinse real good under water and pat dry. Place in a mixing bowl or large Ziplock Bag
  • Add 1 tablespoon Garlic Herb Seasoning, 1 teaspoon each of Onion Power and Cumin, a couple pinches of Salt & Pepper into Bowl or Ziplock Bag and toss Chicken Wings around until coated with seasonings. Set aside and let seasonings absorb into Wings.

Cooking Directions

Rice – I do not follow directions on package because it never cooks properly for me. My way cooks perfect every time.

    • Bring 3 1/2 cups of water in Pot to a boil.
    • Add a couple pinches of Salt and a tablespoon of Oil directly into water.
    • Proceed to add Rice into boiling water and stir. (Some people like to rinse Rice prior to using to remove excess starch but I do not).
    • Lower temperature to Medium/low and let simmer 18-20 minutes or so allowing Rice to absorb water and cook through. Midway, I stir it to fluff it up and let it continue cooking until all the water is absorbed. Keep an eye on it. You can also substitute Rice for whatever brand you like to use using your cooking method.

    Beans

    • Empty Can of Goya Beans into small Pot. Fill can with water 1 1/2 times and add to Pot as well.
    • Add Sazon packets, 1 tablespoon Garlic Herb Seasoning, Tomato Sauce, 1 teaspoon Onion Powder, Sofrito, couple pinches of Salt & Pepper to taste. I always have leftover Bacon fat (optional) on hand and add it to Beans for additional flavor. FYI: You can also cut up a peeled White Potato into bite size cubes and add to it to help with thickening up the Bean juice.
    • Bring to a boil then turn down to medium/low and let it simmer until it starts to thicken. Taste to see if any additional seasoning is needed. The longer it simmers, the thicker the juice. Periodically stir during cooking process.

    Chicken Wings

    • Preheat Oven to 375°F.
    • Preheat enough Oil (about 1 1/2 inches deep) on Medium/High in a Skillet to begin frying Chicken Wings.
    • Place some All Purpose Flour in a Bowl and season it with Salt & Pepper and whatever other seasoning you want to use.
    • Toss your Chicken Wings in the Flour to coat them and gently place them in the Skillet and begin frying 8-10 minutes. Midway, turn them over. They should be golden brown and internal temperature should read 165°F if you use thermometer. Using Tongs, remove and place on paper towel lined dish. Continue process until all the Wings are fried. Cooking time will vary depending on the size of the Wings.

    BBQ Garlic Hot Sauce

    • Place BBQ Sauce, Honey, Minced Garlic, Brown Sugar & Mustard in a small Bowl and stir all together. Cover and heat in microwave for 30 seconds to warm through.
    • Spray the Baking Pan with nonstick spray.
    • Toss the Chicken Wings in Sauce and line them up on Baking Pan.
    • Bake for 5-10 minutes to allow BBQ Sauce to Cook onto the Wings.
    • Flip over and Baste with remaining Sauce and bake for an additional 5 minutes or so and remove. Allow them to rest.

    Plating

    • Scoop a generous amount of White Rice, pour Beans right over Rice and place Wings along side.
    • Garnish with fresh Chopped Cilantro and ENJOY!
