Steak and Smothered Garlic Shrimp is my take on Surf’ n Turf. Sometimes you can have a craving for Seafood and a good Steak and can’t decide which to have so why not have both? While this isn’t anything new, it is what you do with it that can change that whole game.

I love a good fatty Steak. While I know it isn’t always good for you, I don’t make it a habit but I occasionally splurge on my wants versus my needs. Chuck Eye Steak is a very fatty cut of Steak and while it is tender, it always holds up to a good Beefy flavor profile. It’s pretty inexpensive and I would say the cut surpasses some of the more expensive Steaks when prepared right.

Shrimp is whatever you make of it. There are so many ways you can prepare them that creating recipes using Shrimp is unlimited. You can saute, fry, sear, bake, grill, sauce them up, you can do whatever your heart desires and it will still come out great. They pair well with so many options from all sides of the spectrum and one being the famous Surf’ n Turf.

Steak and Smothered Garlic Shrimp was created on the whim of what I had on hand and what I craved at that moment. Herb infused Steak served with succulent Garlic Butter Shrimp was an explosion of flavors in my mouth. Pairing it with Garlic Herb sauteed Green Beans and Sweet Potatoes just took it over the top warming my Soul with something indescribable. How about you try your hand at this recipe and try to explain to me what I couldn’t explain to myself?

  • 1 tsp Chopped fresh Rosemary
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Cinnamon

Oil

  • Olive Oil

Instructions

Steak

  • Pat Chuck Eye Steak dry using a paper towel. Season both sides with 1 tablespoon of Garlic Herb Seasoning, 1 tsp Onion Powder, Salt & Pepper. Set aside and let seasonings marinate into meat for a few minutes.
  • Heat large Cast Iron pan or Skillet on medium/high heat.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of Butter and a drizzle of Olive Oil into Skillet.
  • Once Butter begins to sizzle, gently place Chuck Eye Steaks into Skillet and sear 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and it is cooked to desired doneness.
  • Remove and set aside on a plate and cover them to keep them warm.

Sweet Potatoes

  • Pierce Sweet Potatoes a few times with a fork. Microwave Sweet Potatoes for 5 minutes. If you prefer to bake them and have the time to do so, then by all means bake them.
  • Once Sweet Potatoes are cooked through, peel and slice them.
  • Using the same Skillet you cooked Steak in, reheat on medium and place 1 tablespoon of Butter and a drizzle of Olive Oil into Skillet.
  • When Butter is Sizzling, add sliced Sweet Potatoes in one layer.
  • Add a pinch of Cinnamon and Salt & Pepper over top.
  • Sear them for a couple of minutes until golden brown and caramelized at the bottom and flip over to continue to caramelize other side. You may add additional Cinnamon and Salt & Pepper if you feel it is needed but not necessary. Remove and set aside on a plate.

Green Beans

  • Using the same Skillet or a new one, heating Skillet on medium, add 1 tablespoon of Butter and a drizzle of Olive Oil.
  • Once the Butter is sizzling, add chopped Rosemary and stir to infuse the flavor into it.
  • Add fresh Green Beans, 1 tablespoon of Garlic Herb Seasoning, Lemon Pepper, 1 teaspoon Onion Power, a pinch of Salt & Pepper into Skillet and stir to incorporate seasonings. Sauté Green Beans to desired doneness for approximately 5-10 minutes stirring periodically. Remove and set aside.

Shrimp

  • Add 1 tablespoon of Butter and a drizzle of Olive Oil into Skillet.
  • Once Butter is melted, add Shrimp and a pinch of Salt & Pepper and cook Shrimp until it is no longer translucent about 2-3 minutes on each side. Should be pink and succulent when completely cooked. Do not overcook as this will cause your Shrimp to be tough and chewy.

Garlic Butter

  • Place 2 tablespoons Butter, Minced Garlic, 1 tablespoon of Garlic Herb Seasoning and a pinch of Salt into a very small bowl. Microwave for 10 seconds to soften Butter. Stir to incorporate all the seasonings.

Assemble

  • Place a few slices of Sweet Potatoes on bottom of a dish. Slice your Steak thinly and place over Sweet Potatoes. Place 4 cooked Shrimp on top of Steak and drizzle Garlic Butter over top. Garnish with chopped Cilantro or Parsley and enjoy.
  • Notation: I created this dish using one Skillet. You can cut time by using multiple and multitasking cooking items at the same time.
