Lentil Detox Soup may discourage some from wanting to try it simply by hearing the name detox. Do not let it discourage you. Understanding the healing properties that it entails will give you a better understanding of how this soup can help you. Lentils are a great source of Protein & Fiber that assist in cleansing your Liver by binding to fat soluble waste. This makes for an easy elimination via the bowel. Shiitake Mushrooms and Onion used in this recipe which assists in fighting inflammation. They also assist in the liver functions that reduce stress in the liver. Tomatoes, Garlic, Celery and Cilantro help to remove toxins from the body that can cause inflammation. Carrots are considered antioxidants that protect your cells against free radicals that can cause diseases in your body and help boost your metabolism. Turmeric, Rosemary, Black Pepper, Thyme help fight inflammation while Cumin aids in digestion. There are many more reasons why these ingredients support your bodily functions but these are why I chose to put them in my Detox Soup.

Keep in mind the mushrooms in this soup take on a meaty texture so you do not miss it at all. There are so many options that can be added to this detox soup that you are not limited to a few. It is just a matter of educating oneself of their properties and how they can help you. The cooking part will just come easily as long as you put your soul into it.

Lentil Detox Soup

Soup loaded with Lentil Beans, Mushrooms, Vegetables & assortment of Herbs & Spices to help detox and fight inflammation in your body.

  • Cutting Board
  • Knife
  • Stock Pot or Dutch Oven with Lid

Ingredients
  

Produce

  • 5 Cloves of Fresh Garlic Minced
  • 2 cups Carrots Diced
  • 1 cup Celery Chopped
  • 1-2 cups Shiitake Mushrooms or mushrooms of your choice Broken down to smaller pieces
  • 1 Onion Sliced or chopped
  • 1-2 Tomatoes (Optional) Chopped
  • 1/4 cup Cilantro Chopped
  • 1 tbsp Fresh Ginger Grated or paste may be substituted
  • Juice of 1/2 of Lemon

Beans

  • 2 cups Dry Brown or Green Lentil Beans Washed and set aside

Stock

  • 8 cups Vegetable Broth of your choice

Seasonings

  • 1 tbsp Cumin
  • 2 tbsp Garlic Herb Seasoning No Salt
  • 1-2 tbsp Turmeric
  • 1 tsp Sea Salt
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 tsp Dried Thyme
  • 1 tsp Dried Rosemary
  • 1/2 tsp Red Pepper Flakes

Oil

  • Olive Oil

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Heat your Stock Pot or Dutch Oven on medium/high drizzling Olive Oil to coat the bottom.
  • Add Onions, Celery, Carrots, Mushrooms & Garlic and begin sautéing until ingredients begin cooking through and start to soften.
  • Begin adding Lentils, Sea Salt, Black Pepper, Onion Powder, Cumin, Garlic Herb Seasoning, Thyme, Rosemary, Fresh Ginger, Red Pepper Flakes (Optional) & Turmeric and stir all together and continue sautéing. It will become very fragrant while seasonings infuse together.
  • Gently pour in Vegetable Broth, Tomatoes, Cilantro & Lemon Juice and stir to incorporate.
  • At this point, you can taste Broth to see if additional seasonings are needed.
  • Cover and let it simmer on medium/high for 30 minutes or until Lentil's soften, being sure to stir periodically.

Serving

  • Garnish with additional Cilantro and enjoy this immediately along side a tall glass of Iced Water infused with Lemons & Limes for a refreshing compliment to your hearty detox soup!
